5G Pixel 6 series owners, rejoice!  The late January update is here to fix your phone

The January update for the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro is now available after a delay that prevented owners of the hot new Pixel models from installing the software they hoped would fix the bugs that have impacted Google’s hot new phones. Once the update is installed on a Pixel 6 or Pixel 6 Pro, bugs like the one preventing device owners from making emergency calls should be gone forever.

Software update for Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro

On the Google Pixel update page, Google writes: “The software update for Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro will be rolled out to devices on January 14th. This update includes all fixes noted below, as well as all fixes for Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro in the December 2021 update post. The update will roll out to all devices in the following week, but the exact timing may vary by carrier and country. “

So let’s go back and have a look at the problems you can fix on your 2021 Pixel phones again:

framework

  • Fixed an issue that resulted in the Pixel 6/6 Pro screen unlocking after a missed call when the screen was not locked.

Network & Telephony

  • Improvements for data connectivity in certain networks and conditions.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented the use of the call screen feature when using the phone through certain carriers.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented Pixel 6/6 Pro users with the Microsoft Teams app installed from making emergency calls.

power

  • Fixed an issue that prevented the Pixel Stand setup from updating to launch apps under certain conditions.
  • Fixed an issue that resulted in higher battery consumption in the background under certain conditions.

system

  • Fixed an issue that caused either too much data usage or too little data usage to appear in the network menu for some carriers.
  • Fixed an issue that caused the device to reboot under certain conditions after installing an OTA software update.

user interface

  • Fixed an issue that resulted in a black frame appearing when closing the Assistant overlay on the lock screen.
  • Fixed an issue that caused a memory leak in the system UI under certain conditions.
  • Fixed an issue that caused the navigation bar to disappear when switching from landscape to portrait mode and vice versa under certain conditions.
  • Fixed an issue that caused the PIP window to render incorrectly for certain apps.

Wireless Internet access

  • Fixed an issue that caused the Wi-Fi network to lose connection under certain conditions.
  • The update, which weighed in at a mere 215MB, can be installed on your Pixel 6 or Pixel 6 Pro by going to ideas > system > system update.
