An upcoming BMG-G31 discrete GPU from Intel has been confirmed through the company’s design tools website. This new GPU will likely be a part of Intel’s Battlemage line of discrete GPUs, joining previously leaked G10 and G21 GPU dies. The website targeted at design engineers provides technical specifications for VRTT interposer prototypes intended for the BMG-G31 die, but access to this information is restricted to certain individuals with the appropriate credentials.

If Intel follows a similar naming convention to its Alchemist GPU line, the G31 die could be an entry-level chip for the Battlemage series, which includes gaming, mobile, and workstation GPUs. The numeration pattern in chip names is similar to AMD’s Navi GPU line, with lower-end dies using higher numbers. There is speculation that the G31 chip may house 32 Xe2 cores, according to hardware enthusiast bionic_pumpkin.

With the appearance of a third die for Battlemage, questions arise about the possibility of Intel offering a high-end Battlemage GPU for gaming. It is unclear whether Intel plans to compete with the next generation of GPUs like the RTX 5090 or RTX 5080, but the emergence of a third GPU for Battlemage is noteworthy.

Intel is likely targeting the entry-level and mid-range markets with all three Battlemage dies, with the G31 potentially being a low-end model primarily for mobile devices. The G10 and G21 dies may be aimed at the entry-level and mid-range desktop markets. The Battlemage series is expected to launch late this year or in early 2025, with G10 and G21 dies already in the prequalification phase.

Significant architectural modifications have been made to improve performance compared to the Arc Alchemist line. In iGPU format, Battlemage features a 1.5x performance boost over Meteor Lake’s integrated Arc Alchemist graphics chips, thanks to next-generation Xe2 cores, larger XMX AI engines, more capable vector engines, enhanced ray tracing capabilities, and larger caches.
