Hastings Prince Edward Public Health officials have reported an increase in high-risk COVID-19 cases in the region, with 29 new cases and 25 active cases as of May 22. One new death was also reported, bringing the total death toll to 151. The hospitalization rate at QHC hospitals was noted to be seven people, with no patients in the Intensive Care Unit. There are currently four outbreaks in high-risk settings. The vaccination rate in the region stands at 81 percent, with seven percent receiving a shot in the past six months.
Nationally, Canada has recorded a total of 4.95 million COVID-19 cases with an increase of 1,867 cases as of May 21. There have been 59,362 deaths linked to COVID-19 in Canada, with 16 new deaths reported. Over 26,000 weekly tests were reported across the country, with a positivity rate of 7.4 percent.
