29 new high-risk COVID-19 cases reported by HPE health unit

Health officials from Hastings Prince Edward Public Health have noted an increase in high-risk COVID-19 cases in the region, with 29 new cases reported on May 22 compared to 18 cases the previous week. The number of active high-risk cases also increased to 25 from the previous count of 19.

In addition, one new death related to COVID-19 was reported, bringing the total death toll in the region to 151 since the start of the pandemic. The average hospitalization rate for COVID-19 at QHC hospitals was reported to be seven people, with no patients in the Intensive Care Unit. There are currently four outbreaks in high-risk settings in the region.

The health unit reported that 81 percent of residents have completed their COVID-19 vaccination, with seven percent receiving a shot in the past six months. Across Canada, there have been a total of 4.95 million COVID-19 cases recorded since the start of the pandemic, with an increase of 1,867 cases reported as of May 21. The national death toll linked to COVID-19 now stands at 59,362, with 16 new deaths recorded.

In terms of testing, there were 26,133 weekly tests reported across Canada, with a positivity rate of 7.4 percent. The latest data highlights the ongoing challenges posed by the pandemic and the importance of continued vigilance and public health measures to mitigate its spread.
